I can't resist!
No, French is a dead language understood only by stodgy professors. At one time French was the lingua franca (isn't that a lovely pun :-)), but now it has been replaced by English.
French is still spoken occasionally in a few places. In Europe, it is spoken in France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg. In the Americas, it is spoken in Quebec, Louisiana, Haiti, the French Antilles. Much of Africa speaks French including Morocco, Algiers, Chad, Congo, Gabon, Niger, and Ivory Coast.
Seriously, learning "survival" French is not very difficult, and greatly appreciated by those who speak it -- no matter what you hear about rudeness. French is a very pretty language because it is round and fluid (like most romance languages).
So now that I've been a real pain in the expletive deleted, what were you REALLY asking? |
