While Chambery is a pretty town - I have been there before - for me its major attraction is its location in the heart of the French Alps region. There are other "nice-to-visit" towns/cities not too far away - Aix les Bains, Grenoble, Albertville (home of the 1992 Winter Olympics), Lyon. And, even better if you like to ski, many ski resorts both large and small. Some of the bigger ones are Les Deux Alpes, L'Alpe d'Huez, Tignes, Courchevel, Méribel, just to name a few. But you can also find smaller resorts with fewer people and very good skiing.
Have a good trip if you go.

I have been there -it is a beautiful city, and easy enough to find your way around.

To add something, Chambery is the former capital of the Dukes of Savoy, before they decided to move it to Torino, Italy. The city is very nice, you can visit the old district and the Duke's castle. Another town not so far is Annecy, very nice place too with a wonderful lake.
