how about free accomodation? there are websites where u can contact people who will host u for free for the duration of ur stay, search "free accomodation" or check out the following sites that i know of.

i used to own an apartment in or'lean in a chataeu we renevanted. it was beautiful - right off the river - fruit groves,etc.
