Are credit cards accepted everywhere in Paris? |
Probably a dumb question but I just want to make absolutely sure before I go...I am traveling to Paris for the first time and would just like to be able to put everything on my Visa or Mastercard as opposed to carrying around a lot of cash. |

It's accepted and used pretty much everywhere, but sometimes you need a minimun before using it, maybe, you can't use it under 15 euros...
You need to know that in France, we don't pay the little things with a credit card, so keep some cash on you for your "little shopping". |

I confirm what Juli said. You can use your card pretty much everywhere, except in small stores or for very small amounts (it might not be accepted under ten to fifteen euros). My advice is, keep thirty or fourty euros in cash for the small stuff, and pay the rest with your card.
Hope you like Paris ! |

Most big strores and shops, most restaurants.
I wouldn't expect it in bars or small food shops. |

My credit card always placed outrageous charges for converting to euros and for just using my card . Those fees add up fast when using your card for every little purchase. |

I agree with Juli, credit cards are almost universally accepted but small shops might put a lower limit as they have to pay a tax to the credit company on every payment they receive. Below 10 to 15 Euros they'd rather have cash.
Visa and Mastercard are accepted everywhere, being the dominant credit companies in France. Amex is found too because it is such a big credit company but as Amex's payment tax is very high people prefer it if you use another one.
You can use your credit cards to withdrawn cash at nearly every ATM, you will see the symbols of the credit cards they accept on the machines. Once more Visa and Mastercard are dominant there. |
