Urban stations, perhaps. The supermarkets such as Champion and Intermarché open until midday. Nothing in the countryside seems to be open on Sundays, apart from bakers and cafés and this is often only in the morning.
petrol stations on the autoroutes are usually open 24 hours a day.
The supermarket pumps can be used 24 hours a day, with a credit card, but many of them don't recognise foreign cards; you may need to have a French 'carte bleu'.
Pump prices can vary from, for unleaded 95, 1,30€ per litre at Leclerc (i filled up there today) 1,34€ at Champion, 1,38€ on the autoroute and anything up to 1,42€ in small-town places and on main 'nationale' roads.
If you are filling your tank right up, it can be worth deviating from a main road into a town; 8 cents per litre doesn't sound much, but if you put 60 litres in, that means nearly 5 EUROS difference!!
Bonne route |

yes they are! you pay automatically at the pump with your credit card... |

Only the ones on the autoroute for certain - beware anywhere else.
Also make sure you have different means to pay. Sometimes there will be self-service pumps only (pay by card - but not necessarily the one you've got) - and sometimes they will probably only accept cash because the machine's broken.
I kid you not - have been caught out several times like this. |

More and more supermarkets are open on a Sunday morning, usually Intermarché - not only in the city but also out in the country.
However, most petrol stations that are "open" on a Sunday are 24 hour supermarket ones with payment via credit card.
In some areas petrol stations and supermarkets are also closed on Mondays, usually to compensate for being open on a Saturday. |

Not all of them. In the countryside you might find some that are closed. On the motorways they are always open. |
