Are shops closed at Paris during December?

I want to go to Paris during mid December. Are their shops, boutiques, other places closed during Christmas time? I know French people take their vacation at that time. I don't really want to go there if they are on vacation. Thanks

No, they are open for business just like they are in the United States.

And the big time for taking vacations is in August when manhy places do shut down.

I've always thought that Paris during December would be lovely. Christmastime is during December so I think even more shops would be open during this time. Plus, any tourist location or large city like Paris would be open year round and they know that American's travel during the holidays. I always imagine Paris during December being "the city of lights" in a winter wonderland full of cozy nooks and unique shops, resturaunts, and pastry shops. It will be lovely.

Nope, not closed. Except on Christmas day and New Years day. They may close early on Christmas eve, just like they do in the States. They definitely close early on NY eve, because I was there the year before last. My Parisian friend warned me to get all my shopping done by early afternoon on NY eve because the shops would start closing and not re-open till the day after NY. It wasn't a problem, but I definitely appreciated the warning.

Paris at Christmastime is really beautiful. The weather isn't the greatest, but the decorations and holiday feeling more than make up for that!
