Gustaf (sorry if I've spelt that wrong) Eiffel was a very prominent engineer. He designed quite a number of iron/steel structures around Europe. I've encountered structures designed by him that are certainly towers. For instance there is a free-standing lift in Lisbon that is housed in a wrought-iron or steel tower that links two parts of the city on different levels. |

There is also an Eiffel Tower at the Kings Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Pretty awesome and probably the closest thing I'll ever get to Paris.
