Are there any lovely seaside beach resorts in the south of France that are quiet and not very expensive?

C'est une bonne question....
I am french, so, forgive my mistakes...
I'm going to try to describe to you what the paradize can look like...
If you watch a map of France, you will notise a long straight shore located between the Gironde estuary and Bayanne, in the "Pays Basque".
The Gironde (which is both the river & the department) and the Landes, lower, are quite totally in green on the map. This is the largest forest in western europe: the "Parc Naturel des Landes de Gascogne".
On such a long distance (more than 400 kilometres) roads leading to the beaches are not very numerous, and the best way to find ABSOLUTELY desert beaches is the bicycle, for cycle tracks are very numerous.
If there is a possibility to send you pictures just for you to have an idea, I'll do it with pleasure. Same thing if you need additional details. But... simply imagine an endless beach On july the 18th (today) whth strictly nobody but you, under a sun that you can' even imagine...Only the sea, the sun, the dunes, as far as you can see....Is this what you are looking for.
If you want pictures, tell me

I just got back from Villefranche, and loved it. It is about half way between Nice and Monaco, and a lovely little town. It has a spectacular public beach, and a stunning seaside promenade. There is a little restaurant called Le Roxy just across the street from the Tourism office that is spectacular and very cheap. There are also some affordable hotels in the town, but they tend to be farther away from the beach. Our hotel was 90 euros per night, including breakfast, and it was only a ten minute walk to the beach.

I went to the south of france last year in Port Grimaud in a big caravan park, it was excellent. No too expensive, next to the beach and really hot. Across the bay is St Tropez which is a 10 minute bout ride that costs about 5 euro a family. The caravan was excellent too, see for yourself and see the link:

p.s cheap flight to Nice from Luton with easyjet, so to get there s cheap too!!!

la voyageuse
not really,
the south is "posh" as in visited by the stars (cf angelina jolie and brad). so it is packed with people and very expensive. i advise u the coast on the ocean, south west. know for surfers. but the whole of france is tourist thus busy. good luck.

One of these things is not like the others....let's see if we can figure this out....

Lovely
resort
France
cheap

You are not terribly likely to think any beach resort in France is not very expensive.

Just about anywhere west of Marseilles.

No.

You're slightly better off in Corsica, but it will cost to get there and not be all that cheap once you do.

It is not the area, it is the period. Go in early June or in September. No crowd and prices down, down, down...

i suggest your antibes or menton: in the blue coast (cote d'azur) but quiet and less expensive. otherwise u could go to nice, canne, saint tropez or montecarlo, but they are much more lively and expensive. have a good time!bye

Francoise
If you want to go to the far south where the rich and the famous gather such as Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo and St. Tropez in CĂ´te d'Azur, of course you won't find something cheap. Try to go somewhere for the normal French citizen , such as Les Calanque, L'Estaque, Prado in Marseille--the region of Bouches de Rhone.
