If you mean are there many American citizens of African descent living in Paris the answer is no.
There are a number of people of African descent in Paris who have come from either France's former colonies in the Caribbean or Africa itself. There are more people of Berber or Arab descent who form the largest ethnic/racial minority.
The French government does not collect data based on race, ethnicity or religion. Indeed, it is against the law to do so. However, the best guesstimate is that non-whites exceed 10% of the population.
Be aware that racism in France is pervasive and far more common than in the United States.
France acquired a somewhat undeserved reputation for racial tolerance in the past because it welcomed Black entertainers in the days when Jim Crow prevailed in the United States. But any African American who expects to be treated like Josephine Baker or Louis Armstrong will be sadly disappointed. |
