there are a huge numer of villages in France (the country actually host about 36 000 communes, the big majority of them being rural little villages.
Each region has its specific villages, but I'd say that the biggest concentration of very beautiful villages is in Provence, on the mediterranean shore (south east). The villages in the regions bordering Belgium have generally less character and atractiveness.

Villefranche Sur Mer is my favorite. It's absolutely gorgeous. You can see the bottom of the water from up on the train on a cliff. It's really breathtaking. |

Close to Paris a city called Lille is a very very nice and great high speed train ride away from Paris..It's north about a one hr train ride near the Belgium border |
