You'll enjoy 'la promenade des anglais' (The prom but be careful which beach you use off it! Some of them belong to private hotels so you mgith well get charged a fee if deciding to use 'their' beach for a swim and work on your tan. The old town is really pretty but you shouldn't stick to Nice! You can take a train/bus to Antibes/Juan les Pins (My favourite) and Monaco as you're so close! Stacks of places to go to at night and one bit of advice ... in the old town? Keep your money safe as there are lots of people getting robbed in plain daylight!!! If feeling thirsty, get a bottle of water from a shop because many cafes charge you for water and it's tap water and ... Costly!

Don't forget your sun lotion, go for a very high factor too.

Enjoy your holiday!

I lived there for 13 months when I did a work placement from uni and then went back the following summer for 3months because I loved it so much. If you are looking for somewhere to live, make sure its in or close to the Old Town - thats where all the good bars are (Wayne and Ma Nolans - brill English and Irish bars and Mcmahons, Paddys..oww im getting jealous!)

Also the old town is at the bottom of Jean Medicine (the street with all the big shops - well Zara and Hennies! and galeries lafayette for all your designers!)

You will have the time of you life, i did...its so multicultural. I made really good mates with swedish, swiss, french, aussies, kiwis, loadsa english too!

A really useful website for you when you get out there is http://www.riviera.angloinfo.com - its a portal where UK residents on the riviera swap info. You can easily find a place to live without having to go through agencies!

Really good luck with it all! You'll love it!

I would recommend the following:
- Check out the flower market at Cours Saleya
- Go up to the castle and take in the views
- Take a long walk along the seafront promenade and stop at a beach bar to do some people watching.
All in all, it's a beautiful place. Here is a link to a panoramic photo that I took on the promenade: http://www.360travelguide.com/idisp.asp?iCode=nice1

i was there in June for my second time .....is wonderful...the sun ....the colour of the sea marvellous...
if you have time to visit it's a wonderful botanical garden near the airport and a sort of a castle on a hill . near the castle is a very nice water-fall .
as well i suggest the flower market and a ride with a little train through the town .
Cannes is a must as well as Grass.
Cannes has a castle too and very narrow streets with all sort of things. and Grass is about every kinds of perfumes and how they are obtained ...
have a nice trip

I went last year, and didn't really like it. Some homeless people were in the 'painted town' area where my friend and I had dinner on a pavement cafe and took the food off her plate, while she was still eating.

But the beach was nice!
Be careful, and have a great time.

It's like any other large seaside town. There isn't a sandy beach, it's stones. It's spread along the coast, and not far from the ski resorts.
It's got mild weather even in winter. Check out the Nice website.

i just got back from france and i went all over. nice is amazing! everyone is really nice and there is so much to do. there is great shopping and the sea is wonderful. they almost can always tell you are from america if you try to speak french and they will just speak english to you, so if the langauge is difficult for you, don't worry. but everything is great there. you'll have a wonderful time. well, have fun!

?
Excellent you will enjoy it.

Our daughter had a year in Monte Carlo, just along the coast and thought it was fantastic.

It is quite safe but, as always, just use some common sense and never put yourself in a dangerous situation.

Go on and have the time of your life.

Havnt been to Nice, but have been to La Napoule which isnt far away. Lovely place with lovely people

It's a beautiful city. I loved wandering the streets for hours, looking in the shops and speaking with the locals, who are very friendly. Be sure to stop in the cafes, they're so quaint! And you probably won't have to go far to find a fresh fruit and/ or vegetable stand.

Just to warn you: the public beaches that I went to had no sand, just small round rocks. But the water was beautiful.

If you get a chance, take a day and go up to Monaco. The history was really interesting. If you want a place to eat there, Le Castelroc (very near the palace) has really good food.

Nice is a small city. I was there for about 3 days. Visited Monte Carlo, Antibes, Cannes. Also try a weekend trip to Grasse, the perfumery capital of the world. Try a weekend to Marseille. A small peaceful city. Have fun. More fun if you know a bit of FRENCH

I spent New Years there two years ago. Very pleasant trip. Don't plan to lay out on the beach - it's all rocks.

I'm sure since you're going to be there for 9 months you'll find a lot more than I could ever recommend. Great place to base your explorations of the Cote d'Azur. Have fun.

Wish you safe nice journey , always pray for everyone.
