there's a great street, rue mouffetard, that is known for it's market and cool atmosphere. It also has several hostels. It's not centrally located, but it's easy enough to get around from there.

My favorite is Friend's hostel, it is in a great area and there are usually cool people there from everywhere. Their website is below. Also check out Twizi.com they show a map of all the hostels in Paris.

I have a Paris travel advice Web site and my best research puts "Perfect Hostel" in Montmartre at the top of the Paris hostel list. I discuss several other good hostels. You can read the whole page on Paris hostels at http://www.myparistrips.com

Peace and Love Hostel! it is located right by a metro station. it doesn't have a curfew or lockout. it has a bar inside. and it is only a few stops from the Moulin Rouge and Sacre de Cour. they have rooms for 3 people or more and it is at a pretty decent price! the only thing is the stairway is so narrow and they have no elevator, so of course i had the top floor and had to hike up there everyday! but the view is wonderful. oh plus there is an internet cafe a few places down!
