Best part of Paris?

Which part of paris would be best for two girls who like shopping but cant afford chanel, like cafes and bars, cocktail bars etc, and go out to clubs only one or two times a month, want to feel very safe during the day as well as walking home at night, and are going to experience living in paris? Art, interior design, architecture, and fashion are also interests, and want to work in area of interior design.
So which area/arrondisement would be best to live in for a year?

Paris is generally a very safe city. There is very little violent crime anywhere within the city proper.

Parts of the Northeast of the city can seem a bit sketchy to some people because of the presence of a fair number of non-whites although this is more perception than reality. Similarly, there are some areas, around the Pigalle in the north and along parts of the rue St. Denis where the presence of sex shops and some prostitutes can be disturbing to some people. Again, this is more perception than reality.

Most of Paris is quite expensive and rentals can be hard to find. So the primary consideration may be where you can find something you can afford.

Certainly anwhere in the 5th or 6th arrondissements would be nice but the 12th, 13th, and 14th would probably also be good choices.

if you re looking for a cheap area, just forget abt the 4th (le Marais), 5th or 6th arrondissements : they are the most expensive in paris (especially the 6th).
if you absolutely want to live in an area with lots of bars and night activity, and not (too) high rents, the 11th arrondissemnt is a good choice, or some parts of the 17th, near pigalle and place clichy (that looks dirty because of sex shops but is very safe and full of good bars).
other cheap and good places: 10th, 12th (especially around the place d'aligre), 13th, eastern 17th, 18th (but montmartre), 19th (near the canal saint martin) and 20th.
in any case, do not expect you to see the eiffel tower by the window...

The left bank, especially the 5th and 6th arr. You'll find cheaper accomodations as you move out from the center of the city, say near the 12th and 13th, and since this is the old student section, you'll find a good portion of what you're looking for.

I would have to say that the Marais area is going to be the best place for cafe's great little boutiques and it's also the only area that the stores are open on Sunday. If you are there you MUST do that area,... nd the underground mall. It is a bit on the fringe of the gay area but hey,... I love the gay genres'
Have fun!!
