i live not that far from Biarritz and i can tell you it's a great place to be in the summer !
it's a well know spot for surfing, and at night everything is open late ! in France the legal age to go in bars is .... there is no legal age and if your not 13, they give you what ever you wanna drink !
but go easy on it !
you'll have a lot of fun there ! and plus you won't be far from Spain so ask your host family to bring you there for a week end !

Yes Biarritz is in the Basque Country. IT'S GREAT, the people are great, totally different of Paris. There is parties during all the summer and a 16 yr old can drink anythink he wants whithout any problem. Biarritz' area is very beautiful and there are lovely beaches and Spain (south Basque Country) is 30km away, all the shops close at 10.00PM there and the pubs at 2.00 or 3.00AM.
