Can anyone please give me some information. I am going to Paris in two weeks time with my wife.?

We are flying into Beauvais airport and then getting the shuttle bus from the airport into the centre of Paris at Porte Maillot. We are staying at Des 3 Nations hotel, 13, rue du Chateau d'Eau, Paris 75010. Can anyone tell me how far it is from where the shuttle bus drops us off at Porte Maillot, to the hotel and would it be cheaper to get a taxi or just go on the Metro. I stayed at this hotel about 25 years ago and I think the nearest metro station to it was Republic. If anyone could help me I would be really grateful. Thank you.

The hotel is approximately 8km from the drop off point of the shuttle bus from Beauvais. The cheapest way is to go by metro, and it's quite easy to navigate too.

From Porte Maillot, take metro line 1 in the direction of Chateau de Vincennes. Get off at Hotel de Ville and change to line 11 in the direction of Mairie de Lilas. Your stop is indeed Republique.

The ticket for metro - single ticket costs €1.60, buying in a carnet of 10 tickets costs €11.40 so that's of a better value if you'll be travelling around the city by public transport during the trip. The tickets are now known as t+ tickets and they're mostly white in colour. The lilac tickets are not commonly found anymore although they're still valid for use.

(Good grief... How about some easy directions?)

There's a subway station at Porte Maillot. Take the subway (there's only the #1 line) towards Chateau de Vincennes and get off at Concorde. Take Line 8 toward Creteil and get off at Republic.

Your hotel is about 350 meters to the NW of the Republic station.

Here is the metro map. See if you can find the station you speak of and you can familiarize yourself with this ahead of time.

Metro

Metro, RER

A single metro ticket costs €1.60, and can be used for one journey, including all connections. Tickets are lilac in colour and can be purchased singly or in a book of 10 (“carnet”) for €11.40, at the ticket offices or machines in metro stations, and also in some tobacconists. Keep hold of your ticket until you have completed your journey, as you may be asked to show it if tickets are being inspected. If you cannot produce proof of payment for the ticket inspectors, you may risk paying a fine. This ticket, valid for zones 1 and 2, allows you to travel anywhere in Paris, and even beyond, since it will take you to the end of each metro line, even if it is located in zone 3 (as for example La Défense on line 1).

You can also choose a weekly or monthly “Carte Orange” pass, and other kinds of travel pass valid for unlimited travel during 1 or more days. These can be purchased from the ticket offices or machine in the stations, their prices vary depending on the travel zones covered (see “Travel passes and reductions”). You will need a passport-sized photo for these passes, obtainable from the photo booths in some metro stations (make sure you have the correct change).

In the RER, as long as you remain within the city limits, tickets and prices are identical to the metro (RER stations also have their own ticket offices and machines). If you are travelling beyond the city limits, you need to ensure that you are in possession of a ticket or a pass which covers your whole journey up to your destination in the Ile-de-France region. If not, you will not be able to go through the automatic barriers on arrival and you may be liable to a fine. The RER ticket also covers your journey and any connections within Paris (zones 1 and 2), on your outward and return journeys.
