Can anyone recommend inexpensive places to stay in Paris?

Hi. I'm going to Paris in early September. Can anyone recommend a safe and frugal way to stay for a week? In a good neighborhood.

I'm hoping not to spend $1000 on hotels.

Thanks

try formule1 hotels. they r pretty cheap. one level higher, i guess, may be the premier chain of hotels. formule1 cost just 30 euros or so for a night and u can find them even in good locations in paris

Well, you can try hostel. It is pretty safe to stay in Youth Hostel in Europe, they are real budget and safe. Try to go to the website Hostelworld.com

Check out lonelyplanet.com -- it's full of world travelers who know Paris well. Just search the thorn tree and you'll find plenty!

I have always used this website:

http://www.123france.com

where you can select the hotels by star rating and localities and both. Seems to me the best one around.

A word of advice - do not expect big rooms and breakfast is at best frugal. If given a choice, buy it on the street from any bakery - they are all very good and reasonable. Other than that, Paris is my favorite place on this planet.

Why do you not choose an unexpensive hotel and at the same time very well located, just that you can see all Paris during this week?Try Ascot Opera -rue Monsigny and it will be about 400-500 euros the whole week.

I been to France for few times. U can check this website out because it really provide a cheap accomodation and assure u the facilities and enviroment are just great.

They even have Wi-Fi, than u can connect to the world anytime. Its about Euro40-60 per day and u can share with another two person in a room. With TV , bath tub and heater offcourse

My favorite hotel is within your price range. The Hotel St. Andres des Artes at 66 rue St. Andres des Artes in the 6th arrondisment has singles for 66 euros and doubles for 85 Euros a night which includes a free continental breakfast in the morning.

They are very popular so email them for a reservation at hsaintand@wannadoo.fr

If you are comfortable staying at a hostel, then save money and try this one: http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostel020001.en.htm
I stayed there in springtime in 2004. It is clean and modern and breakfast is included. It is close to central Paris.

Latin Quartier is the safest arrondisement (neighborhood) in Paris. Book your hotel early to save the most money, availability is taken up pretty quickly. www.tripadvisor.com has a lot of good hotel recommendations. Relatively easy to find cheap hotels on online sites (priceline, orbitz, etc).

However, if you decide to book online, please please check details by calling the hotel directly. I just went to Paris, booked online, and had major problems with the hotel (who said we booked for two people, not three) and they overcharged us 30 euros per night, due to the "extra" person.

I suggest the hotel Henri IV really in the center of paris in a island in the middle of the seine and verry very close to Notre-Dame : A really good bargain !
