no,
you onkly have to pay the fine if you are visiting, but if your speed is over 30km over the speed limit the may confiscate your licens and report it to the british authorities.
If you are living in France, then they force you to change your licens to French and then they give you the points (as a bonus :)
I got my first ticket EVER last week after I passed a non working trafic light, the polic guy told me it is my duty to find out if the light is working or not, I have to go to court to fight the 90 euro ticket, I am sure I will lose, it is my word against a French polis man, and in south of France, non-French do not have much to say in the court. |

Hello
Fairly sure on the licence issue.
Fewer points are added (or deducted in the case of the French, who always seem to do the opposite of what the English do) for speeding offences, but they can indeed fine you on the spot, as mentioned in last answer.
HOWEVER please note that if you are caught on camera and not by a real policeman, you have the option of DENYING that it was YOU at the wheel. It could have been a friend driving your car, who has now returned to Australia, for example. Just don't admit it - they cannot force you to do so.
French speed cameras are not as well indicated as British ones; you don't always get a warning sign before.
Speed limits: urban 50 km/h - small villages on main roads may have a 70 km/h limit, but this is indicated. Otherwise always 50. Main road 90 km/h but occasionally 80 km/h if there is rain (also indicated).
Apparently, the limits on free autoroutes (motorways) are 110 km/h and on the (expensive) toll motorways 130 km/h. As i drive a citroën 2CV6, 110 km/h is but a dream.....
Happy motoring. Any other Qs on France, please ask. I may be able to help. |
