Yes even if the accent difference is wide.
There are local expressions, but it's OK.

I've never heard Mauritus French.

I can't understand a lick of Creole. Creole has some French words in it sure, but it is a completely different language. Creole was created by African slaves as a way to communicate in a language that the French could not understand. Theirfore, it follows that the French would be able to understand Creole because they did end up winning their war of independance!

I have never heard Mauritius French so I couldn't tell you but the French spoken on the island of Réunion (right next to Mauritius) is perfectly understandable, yes.

However we do not understand Haitian creole. Only a few words here and there but you wouldn't understand a whole conversation. There are a lot of Haitians where I live in Boston and I hear their programs on the radio and can tell they are talking about politics for instance but I don't understand the whole sentences. As for the written form, I have seen a lot of signs written in Haitian creole here and I understand about half to 2/3 of what they say.

On these tropical francophone islands, people speak either French or creole. When they speak French they are easy to understand despite the accent and local expressions but creole is difficult to understand. In Haiti, most people speak only creole whereas on other islands they speak both.

i dont know about mauritian french, but haitian créole is not completely inteligible with french. Although 90% of the words in haitian créole are french, they are pronounced differently and the grammar is different. Depending on the level of education of the speaker, their spoken créole can be alot closer to french. Haitian French, however, is distinct from créole and is basically the same language as parisian french, with an accent.

example-
They- Eux(french) Yo(Créole)

the writing system of créole is different as well. i can understand both créole and french, but i cant read in créole at all.

nearly all haitians speak créole, but only about 20% can speak french, mostly the educated élite. a somewhat larger number can understand it.
