I believe that if you are traveling with your wife and kid the best idea is to consult a travel agency, I'm sure your not going to put your security in the hands of the responders, Paris has very good and nice places but also has very bad places, it's a big city and we don't really understand their language too well..☺

not a hotel, but I rented an apartment... Personally, I preferred the apartment. It was nice to eat a "home"-cooked meal and have snacks/drinks at home after sight-seeing. If you are staying for at least a week (I think they have a 1-week minimum), I highly reccommend the people I rented from: http://www.parisvacationapartments.com
