1. Although DeGaulle once said "Comment voulez-vous gouverner un pays qui a deux cent quarante-six variétés de fromage?" ("How can you govern a country which has two hundred and forty-six varieties of cheese?") there are now over a thousand types of cheese made in France.

2. The word "hĂ´tel" in French refers to any large building rather than just a place that rents rooms. So "City Hall" in French is "hĂ´tel de ville" which has led some tourists to try and check in.

3. The melody of the Elvis Presley hit "Can't help Falling in Love" is actually "Plaisir d’Amour”, a classical French love song that is about two centuries old.

Every Wednesday in France, war alarm is sounded as a practise or rehearsal. If an alarm sounds on a day other than Wednesday, that means France is in war at that moment on.

Belch is considered to be extremely rude. Don't ever belch in front of any French. The French prefer you to fart than belch.

In French new year's time, there is this cake called galette de Rois which is a cake made of puff pastry, flour, egg, rum and almond powder. A small plastic animal or little toy is hidden in each cake. When family members share the cake, whoever finds the little animal in his or her slice of cake is the lucky one.

Tour Eiffel used to be a tower which you could just climb up and leaned over to watch the whole Paris. But then many people committed suicide by just jumping over the tower, especially after the death of the famous French singer Claude Francoise. Thus they started to build all fences and bars over the tower to avoid such incidents happen again.

French singer, Claude Francoise (1939-1978) was the original singer of Comme l'habitude ( My way in English version). This song is believed to be an unlucky one, whoever sings it will end up in an accidental death. Claude himself was electrocuted to death when changing a light bulb standing in his bathtub.

During daytime, French radio are allowed to play one English song among 5 French song. This was due to DJs played English songs all day long before the enforcement of the law, thus neglecting French music and artists.
