You are permitted to take pictures in most areas of the Louvre, I believe, but you need to make sure that the flash on your camera is turned off. Flashes over time damage the paintings. If your flash goes off, chances are a security guard will come to scold you.
However, you will find that the most famous painting, La Jaconde or the Mona Lisa, is impossible to get a picture of because it is behind several feet of glass.
Your best bet is to buy some post cards for minimal cost in the Louvre gift shop. I always opt for that rather than struggling to get all the other tourists out of the way for my picture! |

Yes you can. But, try to go to "Muse de orsy", as well, if not instead. |

You can take pictures in some areas of the Louvre.
In September 2005, the museum has taken the controversial decision of forbidding to take photos, but it applies only to its most crowded areas.
You can find the explanation below on the Louvre website.
I had also heard that it was forbidden to take photos in the Louvre courtyard with a tripod. I have never had any problem doing this and could not find any indication in the museum regulation. Professional photographers need en authorisation, though. |

NO!
Many tourists do it, but that's just plain ignorance and disregard for future generations and World history. If people continue taking photos of old pictures like they do now, the paint is quickly damaged and the pictures will disappear in just a few years. |

Yes, I think. If you want, you can even practice your art skills by copying some of the paintings (this doesn't qualify as forgery, don't worry). It's a good way to help you focus on the individual details of each work and let you appreciate the immense skill of each artist. |

No because the flash from the camera can mess up the old pictures somehow. |

I haven't been to the Louvre since 2003, but back then you could take pictures as long as you didn't use flash. |
