Hi!

What a funny question, cause I lived there for 4 years.
La Rochelle is a gorgeous city! I love it.

There is about 70 000 people living in La Rochelle. The city is know for it's 2 towers at the port. This is the picture everybody have of La Rochelle.

In the summer, a lot of tourists are coming to La Rochelle. Mostly english cause it's so close and cheap to catch a plane. But also a lot of French. La Rochelle is the number 10 most visited place in France, by the French....

In La Rochelle, you'll find two beautifull beaches, on in the city and one at Les Minimes. There is also a really big one at Chatellion, a little outside the city. All 3 beaches are artificielle.

Interesting facts in La Rochelle....?
In La Rochelle, there are so many places to eat, that you could eat at a new place everyday for a year....
La Rochelle was voted the best place to live in France in 2002.
The best restaurant in La Rochelle is Richard Coutenceau with one Michellin star.
The Lycee Hotelier de La Rochelle ( Hotel school) is known to be one of the best in the world.
There's a lot of students living in La Rochelle.

I'm not sure what you're really want to know. But La Rochelle is a great city and I hope you'll go there one day. If you are, I'll be glad to share with you more of my experinece from living there.

In the Wars of Religion it was a stronghold used by the Huguenots, when it resisted its Catholic Besiegers for 6 months in 1572-3. But Cardinal Richelieu decided to destroy the Huguenots, and La Rochelle held out for a siege of 14 months (1627-28) but eventually fell.
