THESSALONIKI IS NOT GREEK |
Cheap hotels in Paris? Especially hotels for long time stay (at least 2 months)? Which ones would you suggest? |
I would like to come and visit Paris soon ( probably after New Year's Day), and stay a long time. At least 2 months, and maybe 6 months, I don't know yet...
I'm looking for a cheap deal, in safe neighbourhoods.
Any advice?
Thank you in advance |

I agree with Xalynn, you should rent a flat rather than stay at a hotel if you are going to stay more than a couple of weeks.
FUSAC is an option but not the best for good deals since it mostly caters to rich American daddy's girls and boys pretending to live the Bohemian Parisian lifestyle in 4,000 € apartments overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
The average price for a studio in a nice, safe neighborhood is 400 € - 800 € a month but for a slightly higher price I would suggest the safety and convenience of going through a reputable agency like Lodgis: http://sublet.lodgis.com/en/paris/listing/
If you don't find the place you want available at the dates you want (December is a bit last minute to find something for early January), check www.seloger.com, www.pap.fr (directly by owner) or holiday rental sites like www.abritel.com or homelidays.com. All these sites are available in English (just find the flag on the home page). |

If you want to do long stay, hotels would end up being quite expensive and why not consider short-term letting?
For example, the anouncement below is from the listing in FUSAC (http://www.fusac.fr/en/annonces_categories.php ) - sometimes there are good deals to be found although admittedly one as cheap at this one it not common. Then again they're usually listing out studio/apartment, not a room.

130303 06/12/2008 Chambre de bonne meublée à louer, Paris 8è, M°Europe, claire & calme, 6è étage, ascenseur. Chauffage central, toilettes à partager, 370€/m + 30€ charges. Min 3 mois, non fumeur. Tél: 01.45.22.33.94

Translation:
130303 06/12/2008 Room in good building to let, Paris 8th arrondisement, closest Metro Europe, bright and quiet, 6th floor, with lift, central heating, shared bathroom. 370euro per month + 30 euro charges. Minimum 3 months, non smoker. Telephone 01.45.22.33.94

Plus the advantage of a short let is you have your own place and personal space to settle in for a little while, which I think is very nice. Even with renting a room, you may find yourself getting on well with your housemate and get to know the local life better. |

I stayed at Mary's Hotel in Paris. It is a hostel, but hostels are the best way to go if you are looking for affordable. It was really inexpensive, like $25 a night, and it was super clean, in a great area, and right next to the metro. It's hard to find affordable housing in Paris that is clean and in a good area, so Mary's is a great option. (Other hostels can be sickening!)
Here are some reviews:

Or just google "Marys Hotel Paris" and you will get more info
If you want to book it, or look at other hostels in Paris, go to hostelworld.com

I would suggest an apartment. In fact, an apartment is good if you are only staying a week. Less expensive, more homelike, and if you are going to be that long, you might find a place where there are neighbors you could get to know. |
