The Formule1 hotels, above, are all on the outskirts/suburbs of the city, not the center. Unless you really like the metro, I'd go for a more central hotel.

The cheapest non-hostel option that I know of is the Hotel de Rouen. It's about two blocks north of the Louvre in the 1st. For a shared bathroom (but a sink and bidet in your room), it's 30 euros for a single and 36 for a double! Talk about cheap; that's cheaper than a hostel for 2 people (and cheaper than Formule1). I stayed there with my wife the first time I went to Paris (I was 24 at the time), and it was just fine for both of us. Here's a website:
http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/hotel/hotel-de-rouen.html

If that's not your thing, peruse the following site for ideas:
http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/

Paris is no more or less dangerous than any other city. The crime tends to be less of the violent/mugging variety and more of the pickpocketing type.

Have fun!

went backpacking in paris last year and stayed in a hotel called Hotel Formule 1 (cant exactly remember the exact address and there are several of those in Paris) but its cheap and i loved it!!u can check it out, http://www.hotelformule1.com/formule1/index.html.

do not worry,it is very safe in Paris!!theres lots of tourists around and i can say its the best city ive been to so far!! do not forget to visit arc de triomphe at night(the view is AMAZING!!a MUST!! ) and also u MUST visit Disneyland!! if u hav the time and money,go and dine in one of the french restaurants and try the escargo.hmm not so sure about the wat not to do thing,u can practically do nethin there(well of course as long as u dun commit ne crime)...ENJOY!!

We've used the link below a few times and always found a good quality/value hotel in central paris.

Once you're there just ask for a map and guide and you can pretty much walk around and see everything!

Have fun!
