Clothes to wear in paris?

I am going to paris for my first time this summer and i am so excited! my only problem is that i have NO clue what to wear. I have lots of cute little dresses but no skirts... what do the french wear? how can i blend in and not look like a touristy american?

summery dresses are fine, as long as they don't have crazy patterns on them. the french are much more simple. skirts and light blouses are very in right now, as long as they are simply and not over the top. sweaters, skinny jeans, ballet flats, and scarves [silk or light pashmina] are fashion staples for parisienne women. the weather is unpredictable [it's supposed to be 85 degrees today, and tomorrow it's supposed to be 67 degrees with a chance of rain]. always carry an umbrella with you.
[to get an idea of the types of clothes i just told you about, i recommend urban outfitters, h&m, american apparel, and forever 21]
as for bags, i recommend one that goes across your shoulder, preferably leather/pleather because it won't get dirty. they are good because your bag is on you at all times and it is more difficult for someone to pick pocket.
[try forever 21 and h&m for good buys]
if you don't want to look like a touristy american, do not wear the following: white tennis shoes, short shorts, overalls, white socks, too-casual flip flops, sweatshirts/sweatpants, baggy tshirts/shorts, hats, fanny packs, and backpacks.

You cannot blend in. People will know you are a tourist no matter what you wear, and in any case, you cannot find Paris fashions in the United States.

Wear anything you want. It's a big city and people wear all sorts of things.

By the way, one of the dead giveaways of an American woman in Paris is that she wears flip-flops.

The Pink Airplane
Wear fitted clothing - dressy pants, heels, nice blouses/tops, and designer glasses frames are common. Neutral colors are very big - black, gray, khaki, etc. For your handbag, I recommend one that zips closed, and preferably one that goes across your body - harder for the pickpockets to get to.

Skinny jeans (especially black or dark blue), converse-style shoes, and fitted graphic tees are very popular with the teen crowd - again, no bright colors needed. Sweaters and short-trench style coats are popular with everyone.

Your dresses should be fine, but make sure the pattern isn't too crazy - simple is best when it comes to the French. Simple but stylish.

I know you'll want to take pictures of the things that you see, but try not to walk around with a camera in your hand all the time - that screams "tourist", and the street vendors near most tourist attractions will prey on you (and the other Americans). Also avoid wearing baggy t-shirts (especially with American labels/logos/sports teams/etc. on them), baggy jeans/pants, short-shorts, and white tennis shoes.

And, most importantly, enjoy yourself - Paris is an amazing city. :)

I'm going to Paris in five days and I'm wondering the same thing, I'm just bringing my favorite clothes that look the best on me. I'm assuming that in the summer it isn' t REALLY hot, but not that cold, just right I think. Where I come from it's about that same tempreture (in London I'v been there and I think paris will be about the same)

To tell you the truth. There really no different they anyone else. I had the same concern, so I brought a lot of black, not needed. There were tons of people in jeans and t-shirts. You can't tell from the citizens and the tourists. There some fashionable people, but really not alot. Cute little dresses and some nice scarves should be enough to fit in. You can bring some jeans too.
