Another option if you're a tourist in Paris is to buy a carnet of Metro tickets (contains 10 metro tickets) and a museum pass. The museum pass is available in 2-, 4- or 6-day passes and lets you go to the front of the line at most museums, or at least a separate entrance. (Great for Versailles). If you're going to be in Paris for the better part of a week (Mon-Sun), you can get a Carte Orange for around 15 Euros. You'll need a small 1x1 photo of your face for the pass, which allows you unlimited access to the Metro and RER in Paris for the allotted time.
The carnet of Metro tickets does not expire and you can use them whenever. It costs about 11 Euros or so. The Carte Orange is only good Mon-Sun, but allows unlimited access. They stop selling the Carte Orange on Wednesday of the week you'll be using it. |

The "Paris Visite" ticket runs over 3 consecutive days whatever time of first use. You can also buy it for 1, 2 or 5 days. |

Depends on the zone as well...I'm not that sure about outside Zone 2, as I'm living in Paris..the ticket will starts when you 1st use the ticket, but i still suggest you to get the ticket on that day when you need to use it..It would be fine and fast to get the ticket at Metro stations..but there are times like end of the months, there would be a little queue as everybody are buying the monthly ticket..And when you are purchasing the Metro Tickets, please make sure which Zone you wanna extend to, as the pricing are different.. |

3 Consecutive days. But it's better value to buy a 3 day Paris Visite card if you're a tourist, that gives you access to the museums aswell. The RER is a faster way to get around the inner city tha the metro and that card covers it. The C line runs all along the west bank, really useful. If you're staying for a while, the RATP do good deals on week, month and year passes, and I personally reccomend them. |
