Do French people get mad if you imitate them in France? |
Additional Details No I dont speak French. (for the first answer)
When I say "imitate", I mean walking around French and acting kind of like John Cleese in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, saying stuff like:
"Bonjour!" (repeatedly)
"Wi wi!"
Or any of John Cleese's insults from Grail:
"Go boil your bottoms you sons of a silly person!"
all in a very fake French accent

By "imitate" do you mean pretending that you are cultured and sophisticated with a flair for fashion, a refined palate capable of appreciating fine wine and haute cuisine, and the product of an ancient culture rather than an American?
Go right ahead. They'd be amused to see you try.
EDIT: No jurassiczack, I mean something original. |

I would say that they would think you are disrespecting them. Frankly, I do not think they would take it kindly. How would you feel if somebody comes right to your house and starts imitating you?.
Cheers, |

I read your question and was just thinking what would it be like if a European came over here and tried to immitate an American. Wouldn't that look foolish? I think the same applies. |

Go ahead...
I don't think you'll run through severe problems.
They'll just make fun of you.. cause you'll be the icon of the American tourist cliché.
(By wearing sandals and white socks, you'd be close to perfection !) |

No, we have a sense of humour as well. I have had my best laughs when in Australia some people where imitating my accent, talking in French the way like Peter Sellers did.
Make yourself at home and poke the French, if it makes you laugh, you'll find an audience. |

I believe you are mistaken because really you see, French people are mad all the time and certain things just make them madder. Hey if you lived in that country you'd be mad too so dont get mad back : ) |

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Don't bathe or shower and you will fit right in with the French. |
