Do I need a passport to visit France?

I have never been abroad before(sad I know) and so I know very little about passport's etc.I do not own one and never have.My question is do I need a passport to visit France,as I plan to visit there?I am over 18 in case it matter's.Thank you.

Don't think you mentioned where you are from. If from within the EU, you may be able to travel on a national ID card. If from the UK, a passport is needed. If from outside the EU, you will definitely need a passport

if its a foreign country you need a passport

You will need a passport indeed...but entering France or Europe is much more easy than entering US...In France nobody will ask you if you were member of the Nazi party between 1932 and 1945 or if you recently visited a terrorist country or if you have some mud in your pokets or luggages.(this is what European have to answer before entering US).

You have to have a passport to go any where out of the US, even if you drive.

every US citizen requires a passport to visit a foreign country. Go soon because it may take a while. Used to be you could go to canada w/out a passport but I don't know anymore.
