Do They Have Tescos Or Other Famous Supermarkets In Lille, France?

Show all answers

WISE OWL
Tesco is a British chain of supermakets. There is only one Tesco in France and it is in Cité Europe at Coquelles just outside Calais, so none in LILLE.

Otherwise, there are supermarkets of all kinds and descriptions in and around LILLE. They vary in size, and some are absolutely huge and sell everything fom food to white goods, electrical goods, china, books, CDs, clothes, perfumes, ornaments etc..and attached to them are all sorts of other commodities such as cafetterias, shoe repairers, cleaners, and specialist shops etc... all under one roof. They also sell petrol, diesel and bottles of camping gas on their parking base. There also are mini supermarkets in various ordinary neighbourhoods which are nicknamed "superettes" (like the Tesco-express).

Here is the list of the main LILLE supermarkets, their names and their addresses, and where to find them on the map:
http://alimentation.118000.fr/v_lille_59/c_supermarche-et-hypermarche
They are in alphabetical order. To access the following pages click on "suivant" down at the bottom right of each page.
Those that are labelled "Supermarché et Hypermarché" are the largest ones, also known as "Grandes surfaces" because they cover such a lot of ground.
If you are going to Lille, you will find all the produce and kinds of goods that you would find at Tesco's or Sainsbury's and many more other things besides in these supermakets, and especially masses of different fresh foods like fish, meat, vegetables, cheese and dairy products.
Just outside Calais, Dunkerque and Boulogne they also have the Hypermarket chain Auchan which is always full of British shoppers mainly buying wine and spirits, but there isn't one in Lille itself: the nearest is at Centre Commercial Englos, North West of Lille. Centre Leclerc has branches everywhere in France and is very popular because they sell things at a very fair price, and the German supermarkets Lidl and Aldi have made great inroads in France, and often are located on the same commercial estates as bigger hypermarkets.

Lille doesn't need Tesco or any other British type supermarket because they have much better french ones such as Intermarche, Super U (bit downmarket) Mammouth, Carrefour and the best of the lot - Leclerc. You could spend a whole day and equip your house just from one of leclerc's bigger stores as well as getting your photo's developed, eating in excellent restaurants, getting your clothes dry-cleaned, keys cut, etc. etc.

No..
i dont know about lille..
but they have a place called SuperU

i used to live in nogent sermiers, a village near reims. we had carrefour, intermarche, and marche plus all over the place. i particularly enjoyed their ready to eat meals. so delicious, so convenient, and so much cheaper than restaurants. also, in the villages, you don't really need to go to the market because the market comes to you. in the morning, vans would pull up and open up their sides to reveal their offerings. there was the bakery van, the sausage and meat van, the fruit van, and the veggie van. there was also the meals ready to eat van. who needs stores?

Cabal
No Tescos as we have our own brands. France has the biggest number of supermarkets per inhabitant, all local, some of them world brands. Carrefour, Casino, Auchan, Leclerc, and many others.
