Do i need a working visa to work for fun in France over the summer?

Sure you can work there with just a tourist visa... just don't get caught because there are some severe penalties for that type of thing.

Well, if you are looking for undeclared work, it doesn't change anything if you have a tourist or a working visa, as you don't want to be declared... But at your own risk (and your employeer's one), because if you're caught, I think you'll have to wait for a long time before getting a new visa (even a tourist one)...

But you don't seem to need money (work for fun, to kill time :-), so why do you want to work??? Don't you think there're much more interesting things to do?

As to work, its illegal for you to work on a tourist visa.

Its difficult to imagine how anyone with even the slightest imagination or intellect could become bored with France in three months.

It would, for example, take three months just to give barely adequate consideration to each of the works of art in the Louvre.

Try learning how to speak French or, if you speak French then try mastering Verlan, the slang and word play popular with the young in France.

Unemployment is a terrible problem in France, so the likely hood of you getting a job as a waiter/waitress is extremely unlikely. What is possible is for you to get a job being a nanny during the summer for a family seeking someone who speaks English to teach their children. But, to find a position like this will be challenging without being there to interview. I would try contacting the American Church in Paris and see if they know of anyone looking for help.

Where are you from? If you are from the E.U. and hold a valid passport for one of these countries. I.e. British passport. If you have one of these then there should be no problem, as there is an agreement in the E.U. where you can work in any country. If your not from the EU i dont know the answer.

you can try to give english lessons if you are a native speaker. If you stay in Paris put an ad up on craigslist.org/paris
You could do some baby sitting too.
or if you are in the south of France check if they need somebody to pick up fruit in the orchards (peaches in the Drome or Ardeche region) or the grape harvest.
I did it in Champagne when I was a student it was fun, it is usually mid september.
Try the small organizations, it is easier to get hired.

be careful though because the French labour administration is quite strict. this is called "au Noir" meaning undeclared. If something hapens to you you are solely responsible.

You're best bet will be to check with the French Consulate in your country. They should be able to tell you what you would need and help get the process rolling.
