Do the French call the English Channel the French Channel?

I think it makes sense to call it French Channel as France borders it ;)

We call it La Manche ! (same word than sleeve, I guess it is because of its shape !)
@HelenEs : sorry for repeating ! I did not see your answer before typing mine !

Hiya,

No French call the English Channel "La Manche".

Cheerio.

Mr. G
However, the English Channel does not separate France from mainland Europe.

Why should we bother, we call it La Manche and leave it at that. We have so many seas we just give it a French name and leave someone I will not name (glance to white cliffs visible over the water) to their show of defiance. After all we know it's ours ;-DDD

They call it La Manche, which means sleeve - because it's in the shape of a sleeve. Far more inventive than "channel"!
