Hi, I didn't understand anything of the first answer even if I'm french!
Here people don't use doggy bags at all, they will be very surprised if you ask, but in fact I belive that you will eat all your plate and won't need one! |

well, am French and I have no idea what Puma is trying to get you to say. Sorry! (and no offense meant!)
French don't really do "doggy bags" so people will be surprised if you ask! but if you need to do so, ask for the left overs to be put in a small bag to take with you, if possible (and say it with a smile!!!!) in french: "Pourriez vous me mettre les restes de mon repas dans une boite ou un sac pour l'emporter?" You better write that down and show it to the waiter.
Remember that service is usually included in you bill but if you ask for doggy bag (and get it!), it might be worth a tip! Good luck! |

We don't do that in France as some people here told you. You can ask for it but I guess it's kind of rude not because we eat everything ;-) but you would be seen like very very tightfisted. |

We don't have. Abc is right, please don't ask for it, it would look very strange, and not only in France, never saw such thing anywhere in Europe (at least in Italy, Spain, GB, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Lithuania, Hungary). The waiter would think that you are kind of short of money, wanting to get away cold leftovers for later usage... Anyway they will not have boxes... |

Take a bag with you and discreetly, put in it what you want for your dog !
People will find it funny if they see you doing it but nobody cares !
But you are able to take away your bottle of wine, if you haven't drunk it completely !
After the drastic measures taken against drink and drive, people in restaurants used to drink less ! quite understandable !
so now, you may take your bottle with you !
Cheers ! à votre santé ! |

just point at your food, what's left of it and make your hands in such a way that they describe a bag.It works all the time |

Hi from France !
It's possible in French Riviera, why not in Paris ?
You can to say : '' Pouvez vous mettre ce qui reste dans un sachet s'il vous plait ? ''
You can too take your bottle wine it's you don't finish, it's legal !!
I worked in a restaurant and I often done that ....
Have a nice day,
Cat. |

They don't need a doggy bag because most of the time the dogs are under the table with their masters. Very well behaved I might add. I wish we could do that in the US. |

It's very unusual to ask for a doggy bag in France. Actually the portions served in french restaurants are smaller than in the USA so I don't think you will need to ask for a doggy bag. But don't worry, you won't be hungry when you go out of the restaurant.
If you still need to ask, I think that "doggy bag" is quite understandable by french waiters. |
