Why this fear about France? It's just a country! With people like everyone else!
It's safe. Paris is overall a safe city, you can go just about anywhere. Just pay attention to your wallet, but that's an international problem, I guess...
And don't listen to what the media say: there are some disturbs near the demonstrations, but that's all. No civil war, no major problems. I've been to most of the demonstrations and it was safe, lots of children running about, babies and all.
And then there are strikes... it may happen, it's unpredictable. But strikes aren't violent at all. Just take some confortable shoes and prepare to walk! Then again... if you were in the tube you wouldn't see the sights! |

the people rioting in France are rioting against the Establishment. not you.

the government wants to give employers the right to get rid of anybody under a certain age without a reason i think its 25? not sure.

Given the number of tourists already in Paris (including americans, judging from their accents), I don't think
There have not been any demonstration, let alone riots for a few weeks now.
May/June is probably the best season to visit France. |

I have some friends living in France and I asked them a couple weeks ago if it was dangerous. They said that mostly it's not dangerous, just inconvenient 'cause every kind of transportation gets interrupted for undetermined amounts of time. Hope that helps. |

yes it is. I have been living there for over 8 months. We have strikes still, but now new laws are being put up and it looks like everyone is happy about them. i would stay away from newspaper stands and small, shady public stores, and small subways. But if it is the south of France i wouldn't worry at all. |
