Sarah & Yannick
bonjour !

As grmartin has already given good answers, Sarah and I would just like to add one or two ideas.

about a "brief history" (how hard !!!) :
clovis : dinasty of merovingians
charlemagne : starts dinasty of carolingians (751 - 843)
hugues capet : starts dinasty of capetians (987 - 1328)
philippe IV : starts dinasty of Valois (1328-1589)
henri IV : starts dinasty of Bourbons (1589 - 1791)
the last kings during and after revolution :
Louis XVI ( + 1793)
Napoleon 1er 'emperor,actually...)
Louis XVIII
Charles X
Louis-philippe until 1848
Napoléon III
then five republics (last constitution 1958)

two facts why it is great to visit :

because we will be forever thankfull for the help you gave us during WW I and WW II

because we have many borders... so it makes somesort of a patchwork; even us don't know France entirely

hope you come to visit us, some day...

good night
