Does France have any good holiday resorts?

I want a holiday abroad but my Husband will not fly due to a fear he has of flying. However, I have been looking at France as it would be accessible by train, but I know nothing about France and its resorts.

Ideally I'd like to have Spain's bustling resorts with gorgeous beaches, but in France.

Does anyone have any reccomendations or any info on the resorts of France?

Any help would be great.

For bustle and heat, go to the French Riviera on the Mediterranean coast, but not all beaches there are either gorgeous or sandy, though the sea is very blue hence its name "CĂ´te d'Azur". It is crammed with tourists from all over the world and some beaches are so busy that people are lying there cheek by jawl like sardines, but there are designer boutiques, shopping etc... and the chance of meeting someone well known.
If you click on the links to the individual towns on this website you will get a better idea.

If what you want is warm, touristy but a bit quieter, with superb long sandy beaches, choose the Southern Atlantic coast at the foot of the Pyrennees on the other side from Spain for instance towns like Biarritz ,Saint Jean de Luz, or Bayonne. All that coast from La Rochelle downwards has fabulous warm beaches and it depends on what sort of razmataz you fancy.

Here is a site that gives you the "best" of both coasts, it is aimed at people who are looking for property but it gives a flavour of the towns it names, though it is by no means comprehensive:
http://www.frenchconnections.co.uk/en/guide/blogentry/150910-best-of-the-french-coast--the-south

Both coasts are easily accessible by train, or even coach travel if you prefer.

In the south of France, St Raphae, it's between cannes and st tropez !
There is a resort, Cap Esterel !
