Does anyone have advice for a trip to paris? |
hi, i'm from the uk and want to visit paris in mid to late june and require a little advice. does anyone know any good, affordable, central hotels? also what do i need in terms of insurance? are there any good deals for discounts to museums, art galleries and the metro system, and can they be bought before i go? lastly, in terms of money can i use my debit cards in france? i'm a little inexperienced as you can see, so i'd appreciate any help you can give me. thanks in advance. please no 'funny' answers like 'don't go' - they really aren't helpful! |

I would defiantly recommend using the Métro it's the cheapest fastest way to get around Paris. The easiest thing to do it to buy and unlimited day pass. You'll probably have a lot of gypsies coming up to you asking if you speak English, just say no and walk away...if you say yes they'll hold a postcard up with some sob story asking for money, it's sad at first but after you meet 20 people with literally the exact same story and in the exact same handwriting it gets a little old. watch your pockets too. Have fun it should be an amazing trip! O P.S. the best and cheapest way to eat is in the Latin quarter it's buy Notre Dame. The Eiffel Tour lights up with sparking lights at 10, 11 and 12 for 10 minuets...it's not something you want to miss it's amazing. |

Simple; Watch out for pick-pockets on the Metro. if you are going on the Euro star you can buy a pass at the euro star ticket office at the London end, that will let you go on the metro are get you into Museum's and stuff. If you don`t Speak French it make your stay a lot easier.Asking for a travel card at the Gard-de-Nord. Metro station in the rush hour is no fun for a Brit that has just got to Paris for the first time. |

You can use your debit card in cash machines in France, no problem. |

About credit cards, you can use as usuall. Only take care about which exchange rate they would place and compare with the usual one.
About deals for museums and more, check internet about. At least for metro and museums they are some options about.
And about hotels and more check here. They have the best hotel rates.

The last time I stayed in Paris was at the Maciano Opéra Hotel it's nearby the Opera house, the big department stores, and the North and East Train Station, it's really well located, clean and lovely hotel.
The best way to know the important monuments in Paris is taking the "Open tour bus" it cost something like 45€ for 2 days ans you save alot of time and money to go from one place to an other! |

Check out the hotel Inter Hotel Roma Sacre Coeur on tripadvisor.com, I've stayed there twice and really enjoyed it, a cute little quiet place super close to the metro stop (great for walking home late in the night), I am amost positive it's right at the Lamarck Caulaincourt metro stop. It's in the 18th adr, but the metro is so easy to use, I never thought it was a problem.
Get the museum pass card, you pay for it up front then get admittance to so many museums, also you get to go to the front of the line! I believe you can pick them up at any museum line.
I don't see why you'd need any insurance.
Also I sugest that you do use your ATM to get money, don't bring a ton of cash to change over, I always lost money that way. If you get money from the ATM you get the current xchange rate.
Also buy the Cart Orange (I believe it's called, something about Orange) for the metro system. You get a block of metro tickets at discount.
Have fun! |

Make your way to Ger de Norde and there you will see loads of fliers for cheap accommodation. To travel around Paris you can buy a mobilis card which gives you access to teh Metro, CNCF trains and the buses. You can get to the Eiffel tower on the Metro, Disney and Vale de Europe (biggest shopping mall in europe) on the CNCF at Charles de gaulle station just off the champs des lessee up near to the arc de triomph statue. Valle de europe is the next stop to disney. |
