Burgundy was effectively a country for more than a century, allying itself sometimes with the French throne, to which it was theoretically bound by feudal ties and with the English with whom France was in a state of almost perpetual war. It was the Burgundians who seized Joan of Arc resulting in her death at the hands of the English.
The Dukes of Burgundy expanded their territory to the north and south and created a hugely successful commercial empire that controlled the trade running from the Low countries in the north to the Italian city states in the south.
Then English power on the Continent waned and the French throne consolidated its power. An ill fated attempt by Charles the Bold of Burgandy to subdue the Swiss resulted in his death at their hands and allowed the French king to bring Burgundy under his control. |

Burgundy isn't a country but rather a region of France. Do a search for it and just go to a site that's not Wikipedia (I assume your teacher said you can't use Wiki). Also, there's this awesome resource, it's called...a library. |
