Does anyone know of any cheap hotels near the centre of paris?

I'm having the hardest time finding any!

It depends what your definitions of cheap and central are. For me cheap is under 80 euros in the 1st to 6th arrondissements of Paris and under 50 euros in the outskirts.

http://www.cisp.fr/cisp/index.asp?ln=us (great for people traveling alone on a budget)
http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/paris-hotels-by-cost.html

And as mentioned above, cheap hotel chains such as Formule 1 (no private bathroom), Première Classe (has private bathroom)... But none of them is central and some really don't have the best locations so look carefully at the address and the map. If zip code doesn't start with 75 it's not in Paris but in the suburbs. Check the nearest métro stop also.
http://www.premiereclasse.com/en/hotels/index.aspx (only the last two hotels listed are in acceptable locations)
http://www.hotelformule1.com/gb/reservation/liste_hotels.shtml (the nearest one is in Montreuil, 10 minutes from métro lines 3 or 9, so NOT a convenient or pleasant location. Only as a last resort!)

Actually, you may enjoy renting an apartment much more than staying in a hotel. And they are very often cheaper (and certainly roomier!)

Here's a few web sites:

I've never stayed at the Hôtel Tolbiac, but I remember seeing lots of ads for it in FUSAC (France USA Contacts), and it seems nice:
http://www.hotel-tolbiac.com/us/index.html
I *have* on the other hand stayed at Etap, which is a hotel chain with locations on the outskirts and literally just outside of Paris (with easy access to métro stations). You should know that Paris is very compact, and that crossing it by métro is therefore not a very time-consuming process.
Here's one in the 20th arrondissement (actually within city limits): http://www.etaphotel.com/etaphotel/fichehotel/gb/etp/3086/fiche_hotel.shtml
Also within city limits, near the Porte d'Orléans: http://www.etaphotel.com/etaphotel/fichehotel/gb/etp/2559/fiche_hotel.shtml
Here's one in Issy-les-Moulineaux (suburb that borders Paris to the south):
http://www.etaphotel.com/etaphotel/fichehotel/gb/etp/2596/fiche_hotel.shtml
I hope this helps. Have a great trip!

There is a good apt listing Co called Attitudes Paris. I have rented apt's from them and they have a great web site and really nice to have a small efficiency and make your own coffee in the morning rather than crowd up with the hotel guests.
Also you can try this co- Venre.com. I use them for hotels all around Europe. Check that one out too,. Good Luck!!

Tthe cheapest hotels I know in Paris : the Kyriad Brancion, in the 15th arrondissement, near Montparansse, in a typical french quarter and the Hotel Wilson (actually it is in Asnière, but very well served by train, no problem for going in the city center (direct connection to gare st Lazare).
But "cheap " depends on the period of your stay. Check the website www.nyceParis.com , it is not a famous one, but very clear and easy to use (I've found and booked each of those two hotels on that site.)

You don't want a hotel in Paris. Save yourself some money and get something nicer in an apartment. Check out: http://traveljapanblog.com/wordpress/2008/05/finding-a-place-hotel-or-apartment-to-stay-in-paris/

there is a lot of cheap hotels in paris, depend on your budget, but formule 1 is outside paris, and without a car it's impossible, cheap with a car only! be carefull.

usually i like hotel louxor near "republique" room is around 60€ for 2.

Paris is expensive, madam. Try hostels if you don't mind that style or try here:

I guarantee you'll find some cheap prices.
