I've been to France twice and both times the French people were so kind to me. I'm a bit of a Francophone (and Francophile!) so I think that warmed me up to them, as I didn't force my English on anyone. Several times I needed to ask for directions (always in French) and people were always happy to help. I think making an effort to speak their language, as well as showing that you've studied their language and culture for years upon years really tells them that you love everything about where you are and you have respect for them.

One French woman saw the trouble my sister was having carrying her suitcase up a flight of stairs in the Metro, and she actually walked over and lifted the bottom and helped her up the stairs - I was astonished!! No where have I ever seen that level of kindness.

I am actually studying in France right now and I absolutely love it! I have to go back to the United States soon and I don't want to go! But in about a year and a half, I am moving back here for good. My boyfriend in French so we plan on being married and staying in France. I love it!
