Driving in Paris, recommended or not?

Planning to visit paris in June, do you recommend driving in Paris or taking the tube / public transport, we are a family of 4.

It's a little hectic to say the least, and you do have to be a very confident driver, especially if you are not used to driving on the 'wrong' side of the road. However, Paris is SUCH a beautiful city, especially in the centre, that you may be better off paying for taxis or walking between the metro (tube), if you drive you will miss soooo much, and get stressed!! I have visited a couple of times, and I found it was worth paying to be taken round the city on coach, some coach operators even do night time trips, because it's so beautiful, and nothing can beat the thrill of driving up the Champs Elysses. The Metro is cheap, but if you intend to be out late at night, you may be better getting a taxi back to your accommodation, as certain districts are a little less savoury at night.

take the tube parking is a problem

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
we WERE JUST THERE AND WE FOUND THAT WE COULD JUST WALK TO MOST PLACES AND WHEN WE GOT TIRED OF WALKING TOOK A CAB BACK TO OUR HOTEL.

I would also recommend that you use public transportation whenever it is possible.
The only interest in getting a car is reaching areas outside Paris that are not easily accessible by public transportation or require tedious changes or long trajects.
If you plan to go to explore Ile de France, renting a small car for a day or two through discount car rental services such as Interrent may prove interesting

Tube. If your not french they'll hate you.

Don't drive, like a demolition derby in small clown cars.

Public transport is much more convenient even with small children. Parking is very difficult if not impossible without spending ridiculous amounts for a public car park. You really won't gain anything from driving around the city center.

If you are driving from elsewhere it's probably a good idea to stay in the outskirts and leave the car there and take the train or RER for sight seeing.

Its not too bad if you are a confident driver, but the Paris Ring Road is considered to be veru tricky!

Even taxis will work out cheaper than a rental car plus the cost of parking and petrol. The tube is easy and cheaper still. Getting around by public transport is a breeze.

I just come from paris and it's largly better to take the tube.Don't be scared about french people, they don't hate more americans than others. It's just a sad stereotype.
But if you want to visit paris at night i recommend you to rent a car, it's genial, you can drive everywhere in paris with open windows. If you want more information cantact me by mail at olivier_monfort@yahoo.fr

bye bye
