Start learning French. Having to learn a language to get by and work is actually the best way. Because you are forced to.
If supermodels can learn it - so can you.
Besides, many French speak English. Not as many as they would have you believe - but enough so that you can function. Buy a phrase book that has basic key phrases so that you can order food and learn basic manners types of phrases. |

I have to say, and you may not want to hear this, that you should learn just a little french. You don't need to be fluent, or an expert, just at least the basics.
The Parisiennes are not arrogant and unfriendly, as some Brits suggest, they are only like that if you don't try a little bit of their language. If you at least try, they will appreciate this and respond more warmly to you.
But in answer to your question, sorry when I was there I don't remember any specific english speaking restaurants.
It's a nice city, enjoy! |

I don't know which part of Paris you are working in, but am sure that you will find that virtually all central Paris restaurants have their menus in English and in French. Every restaurant has, by law, its menu posted outside so you know what you are letting yourself in for both food and price-wise. Paris does have quite a lot tourists visiting it and so the restaurants are quite used to them - its not as if it's deepest Siberia! Learn to say thank you and please before you go out, smile courteously when you arrive at the restaurant, and enjoy! The St. Michel/St. Germain area is full of restaurants - try rue Mazarine. Just don't whatever you do go into a fast food hamburger place. There is no reason why the people in a hamburger restaurant are going to speak better English than anywhere else - after all, they're all French - and it would be an absolute tragedy to miss out on some great French cuisine!
Bon appetit! (enjoy your meal!) |

Why don't you simply go to self service restaurants. Then you won't have to speak to anyone at all.
In any case, if you look at most English recipe books, the names of most of the dishes are in French! So you should already know the names of most of them anyway. But beware of things like "ris de veaux" which I overheard two American tourists as translate as "veal and rice".
The waiters in many restaurants speak some English. Especially in the tourist areas. Maybe not well enough for a political/philosophical conversation, but that is not what you are looking for, is it?
Finally, there are plenty of Turkish restaurants where you can just point at the dishes.

I won't scold you bc ppl from all over the world come to America and then never learn English. Try to learn some French-- you'll get a lot more out of your experience in France. A phrase book can help you navigate through a French restaurant. Usually, bistros and cafes near tourist attractions are used to English speakers. OTOH, Michael Caine the actor once said to not eat at restaurants near tourist places, bc there is no incentive to provide good food (tourist will come regardless of how bad the food is). You might try buying food at the deli section in supermarches or buy pastries at a patisserie.Just say "un comme ca" (pronouced "Ungh come sa" and point to what you want. The food is also less expensive than in restaurants. Or you can just walk into a restaurant and ask the waiter, do you speak English? In English. I always thought it was strange to ask ppl in a foreign language if they spoke English. If they do speak English, they will understand the English sentence: "Do you speak English." Wow, living in Paris. I am envious! |

Look for a resturaunt that is also in England, say a McDonalds or Starbucks. But I do suggest learning French if you are working there. Good Luck :) |

We didn't have any problems in any of the restaurants we ate in in paris. Although we were wearing jackets and stuff that said Canada on them. |

I find it surprising that you can actually live in Paris and need to ask this question.
What's difficult to find is a place where no one speaks any English, at least in Paris proper.
While I speak French, my female traveling companions have all been English speakers and I find that when my waiter hears us speaking English they invariably speak to us both in English even when I stubbornly persist in replying to them in French. When English language menus are available, which is often, I have to ask for the menu in French.
In 35 years of traveling to France I have never seen any wait staff become "upset" with English speakers who behaved like gentlemen.
