Eurostar...first or second class?

My husband and I will be meeting in Paris this December and then taking a side trip to London for 3 days. We are planning on taking the Eurostar from Paris to London round trip and were wondering if it's really worth paying the extra money for first class tickets. Any suggestions?

Second class, save the money! If you are heading to London, two words: OXFORD CIRCUS! Shopping shooping shoopin'! Going under the water made me anxious.

not really worth it. Eurostar is no big comfort- like are the ICE, the Thalys- nor is it too long a ride. it's like seating in economy on an airplane and it's less than three hours. save that momney for something else.

for the previous poster, i doubt there's any cabins or night eurostars- it's not like it's a 10hr ride from paris to london.

for travelmad- the italian eurostar isn't the same service as the anglo-brit-belgian eurostar, btw. italian eurostar is more of a shite version of the ICE.

If you are taking a night train I would recommend first class with a private cabin, otherwise Eurostar is a fabulous train and unless you have exceptionally long legs (over 6'5") you will be very comfortable in second class.

I go for work regularly, and find the first class ticket to be well worth it. Especially if you can get the leisure rate, which really isn't very expensive. You have more space, there are fewer people so it's usually quieter, and you get a full meal in first class.

I have taken this trip with my son and when I first was researching the tickets, the first class were MUCH more expensive. But I postponed purchasing the tickets and thank goodness - the day prior I checked again from our hotel and found a special that would allow first class tickets to be purchased for the second class price! It was well worth it at that price! So I would keep checking and try to get a special like that, though I'm not sure how often they do it.

Good luck - and enjoy! It's a great trip!

I have not taken the ES between Paris and London but have used the service quite extensively in Italy. First class is very worthwhile. The seats are wide and well designed for comfort. There is excellent leg room and accommodation for luggage. The toilets are newer and clean. There is at least a complimentary beverage and snack service. The design and environment are conducive to a comfortable experience.
