I would rather go to actual places than go on a cruise. The cruise ship will make stops in a bunch of places, but they only stay a few hours and you'll mostly see the seedy shipping ports of a bunch of places. Being on the cruise ship itself isn't too bad if you like really big hotels that rock back and forth all day and all night. Most travelers agree that the fun is mostly outside the hotel, and you just don't get as much of that on a cruise ship.
Also, I would rather travel with people my age than with my relatives. No offense, relatives, but people my own age are less high-maintenance and they like to do what I like to do.
And although I really love traveling to warm tropical places with beaches I can swim, I mostly enjoy that when it's a getaway from the cold of winter. In the summer, I'm less inclined to travel to a tropical destination. Save that for Christmas break or Spring break.
Lastly, I think that France, Italy, and England have a whole lot to offer in terms of food, culture, art, people, and just a big pile of wonderful experiences you'll remember and cherish forever. Sitting on a deck chair on a boat getting a sunburn just doesn't compare, if you ask me. Yes, you might have some great experiences for a few hours here and there when the boat stops in a variety of beautiful little island communities, but you won't get to stay long enough to really appreciate the people or the food or the feel of the place. When you want to experience the Caribbean, go there and stay in one place for a while before you move on to the next island. You'll enjoy it much more. |
