You can play just about any DVD in French.

But their are many good french films. Here are some of my favorite in no order of preference:

Manon de la source
Jules et Jim
Amelie
les reseaux sauvauges
les regles du jeux
Mon Oncle
Madame Bovary
Edith Piaf
La Femme Nikita
Bleu (Blue in English)
Blanc (White in English)
Rouge (Red in English)
*** The three above are a 3 part series, They can be seen in any order because they are of different stories, but you get the full effect by seeing them in order. To tell you the truth I really like blue and red. Red is the best. But since white is part of the series you wouldn't want to miss it. Each color is a part of the french flag.

Check them out on imdb.com. They are well reviewed, I think you will be pleasantly surprized. http://www.imdb.com/

I think you can watch just about any movie in French if you set up the dvd that way, then you can switch from a show you already know in English, and watch it in French, to reinforce...plus, you can do the subtitles...I learn a lot by listening in English, and reading the subtitles...all good ways to go.

the dinner game is funny.

The Widow of St. Pierre is a very enjoyable movie to watch.

Indochine is a great classic. La Cage aux Folles for some fun. Chocolat. Anything with Jean Reno or Gerard Depardieu!!

I liked "La Vie en Rose."

About Edith Piaf (a singer), who was known as the "voice" of Paris.

I would HIGHLY recommend it. It's all in French (except for a few parts - involving Americans.)

I suggest recent films if it's for being better in french.
Films like:
De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté
Le scaphandre et le papillon
la graine et le mulet (best film, director, screenplay and female revelation in Cesars 2008, it was yesterday)
Le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain
36 quai des orfèvres
Naissance des pieuvres
Persepolis
etc...

C.R.A.Z.Y is an amazing film that has both French and English spoken in it, it's really good if you're into music and stuff! the guy in it is very hot too!! hehe!

Amelie ~ Beautiful film about a young women trying to find love

Le Belle at le Bette ~ Beauty and the Beast

Try finding films about "Asterix" He is a comic/cartoon character popular in France.

The Passion of Joan of Ark ~ It's a French silent film. So it could help you learn how to translate French.

With this link http://www.francetvod.fr/site-vod/plusbellelavie/

you can watch online the episodes of the well known french serie "Plus belle la vie" (it's a bad french name it should be "La vie est plus belle").

It has a total of 1000 episodes, so .. you might have some difficulties to understand, but it's cheap and you can buy a lot of episodes.
