france.
because it's beautiful.
and i've never been to america so i'd have to go by the stereotypes - which aren't horrible or anything, just not as nice as france.
i think france would also be nice because it would be a change. australia to america wouldn't really seem as big as australia to france, and if you're gonna move, why not make it big? :) |

That depends on the individual and what they want to do with their lives, how they want to live, their attitudes, and their tastes.
I love France and spend a lot of time there and have considered living there many times. I have the financial resources to live anywhere I want.
But, after reflecting on the many issues involved, I choose to remain in the United States and specifically in rural Texas. Here taxes are low, land is cheap, government leaves me alone, and, essentially, on my ranch I could, if I chose, raise my own food, harvest my own trees for lumber and even pump my own oil (although I use solar panels for energy instead).
Of course the drawback is that culture is non-existent, my neighbors are illiterate right wing religious maniacs, and once you've had your fill of barbecue and Tex-Mex restaurants there is no place worth going to eat.
Speaking more generally, the USA is the place to live if you're personally ambitious, are confident that you will be financially successful, and feel that higher taxes are not justified even by enhanced government services. Its also, although many French people will take umbrage at this, a place with greater diversity and a greater respect for individual rights.
France is the place to live if you prefer wide ranging government services (especially an excellent health system) even at the cost of very high taxes and higher unemployment. If you prefer a society where college graduates aspire to being government functionaries rather than entrepreneurs but also where materialism is less important than intellectualism then France is your choice.
I also observe that what the French do they do very well but they can be blind to the fact that they can, in their own way, be quite provincial. An excellent example is in food. The standard of cuisine in France is extraordinarily high. They have a respect for locally produced products, the seasonality of produce and the need for absolutely meticulous preparation that produces meals, even in very modest restaurants, that is stunning.
On the other hand, their palates can be very unadventurous. For some reason Tex-Mex has acquired a certain popularity in Paris (I can't speak for any other location). But what is served is so vile that I cannot fathom why anyone, let alone a Frenchmen would eat it. The same is true of much of the Asian food that is served. I've talked to cooks in Paris about this and they confide that they have "dumbed down" the food because the French can't accept food that strays too far from the familiar.
Another example is music. The French have adopted both rock and jazz with great enthusiasm but few Frenchmen can play it very well and almost none can compose in those styles.
In any case, I repeat, it is a matter of personal preference which country will best suit you. Further, I point out that if you are unhappy where you are, you should first be sure that it is, indeed, the country and not yourself that is the source of your disquietude. |

I'm an american but live in France. I'd rather be in the US to be honest. France is too exspensive, crime is crazy here, taxes are really high, you have to wait forever to see a doctor and there are not that many jobs. I'm only here because my wife is French and she didnt want to live in the US. She thinks it is like the movies LOL
I like France, just it is hard to live here unless you're rich or not White as you can just get government programs. |
