France question?

Why is the eiffel tower so important to France. I know it may not be, but i have to think of several reasons.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, is one of the greatest engineering masterpieces, ever built in the world. It was constructed for the World's Exhibition of 1889 to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution. That is why it is seen as being so important.

It is an icon.Like Mt. Rushmore or The Statue of Liberty in the U.S.A.

It isn't THAT important! It just represents the fantastic ingeneering capacity of the french people.
Did you know that the man who disigned the Eiffel tower, Gustave Eiffel, also invented the suspenders that hold the ladie's stockings in place. Now that's more worhty of respect!

The French originally hated it. They said it just stood up in the middle of their nice city and made it look ugly. Especially since it was copper/brown color.

it is very pretentious... tall, pointing through GOD. Enough to be up to french type of mind

It was built during the war as a radio tower. It was important for communication during the war. Then it became a symbol fo rthe city and the residents wanted to keep it. Now it is an important tourist attraction and symbol of France,,,,,
