Heath care in France is NOT free.
There is a system of government sponsored health insurance which reimburses those who are insured for almost all their medical expenses. Patients pay their health care provider directly and then submit bills for reimbursement.
However, it should be noted that medical expenses in France are considerably lower to begin with than in the United States.
But you cannot just go to France and get free medical care. |

No free lunch, sorry. We pay taxes to get that health care. As Rillifane explained above, we only have to pay the part not taken in charge by our state managed health insurance but that's only because we pay health care taxes every month on our salary to finance that system.
If you are a member of a country with a mutual agreement with France (like the UK) you can be taken in charge by the French health service and need only to pay the part that is not reimbursed, in exchange French people needing health care in that country will be taken in charge by the local health service the same way. Paid with your taxes.
If your country doesn't have that agreement you will be asked to pay it all. |

no you don't have to be a french to get health insurance. if you are european ask your country and they give you a card that covers you in all the e.u. if you are a student you can get your health insurance at "smeba". in other cases i don't know.. |
