CDs are no problem, it's the DVDs which have a different format so you can't buy cheaper elsewhere, unless you have unlocked your DVD player.

You can get cd's in French. In the US most of them are of older artists. Not much that is very current.
You'd be better off with i-tunes.

Yes of course. You don't need to go to France to find French music. You can download French music from different sources on the internet and listen to them on your Ipod.
