French Food?

With france's main religions practised are Roman Catholic 83% - 88%, Protestant 2%, Jewish 1%, Muslim 5%-10%, unaffiliated 4%.
What influences does religon have on food habits

Everytime they see German food they surrender.

The influence on french food is more to do with region, rather than religion. This is not only because of tradition, but also availability and seasonality of produce etc.
The only times that religion would have an influence on food is during times like Easter, when some choose to eat chocolate if they're Catholic, etc..

France isn't any different to any other Western nation - their religious influences on food will be the same as where you're from =)

religions have few influence on food habits, immigration does.
You can find kebab sandwiches (north african) easily and one of the favorite dishes of French people is couscous (north african) ... They enjoy paella (spanish) as well.

You are wrong about the religion repartition: over 25% French are atheists.

Nowadays, the muslim religion has a strong impact in schools where special menus without pork and composed of hallal food are required by muslim parents. There are also special areas in supermarkets with hallal food.

What your percentages don't point out is that France, like many European countries, has a shrinking population of people belonging to any religion. So even though it is historically a Catholic country, the people are very secular. Likewise, there are probably centuries-old traditions with religious roots which they observe only because it is so ingrained in their culture. There are not, however, food habits the majority of French adhere to for the sake of religion because the majority are not practicing Catholics anymore.

I imagine religion does play a role in the eating habits of practicing Muslims, Catholics, etc. in France, but I am not aware of how this differs from in other countries...

Thou shall not commit gluttony!
When I am in France, I don't see a lot of overweight people like in America. The women there are thin. They eat well, but don't over-eat. I don't really think it's the religion. You can have a great French meal that's moderate in portion size and be satisfied.

Some french foods are...

Crapes(pernounced;crayps)
Like pancakes only much thinner and wider and taste way better!

Sucre a creme(pernounced;sookakrem,with accent)
a somewhat sauce, often goes on crapes, french cakes and deserts.Very good!If left too long to simmer when making then it will turn into a very tasty fudge!:P

The very popular French Toast and French Fries.
