I am so ashamed that some of my fellow citizen answered we are more closed to spaniard , portuguese , italian . Maybe that' s true for people who live in southern in France , but seriously in north eastern France we feel that we are more closed to Germany than Spain or Italy.
In Brittany because of their celtic roots , they feel to be very closed to Wales Scotland and Ireland.
In northern France they feel more closed to the Nerthelands.
France is a melting pot of each country in Europe, latin, slavic , germanic people. |

I don't think that French people are like any others. I have many French friends and know France well. It's quite a large country and the people in the south are different to those in the north, for example. |

The French people are very regional, nationalistic, and regionalistic.
Very proud to be from their town, city, province.
They are unlike any of their neighbors and would not like to be made similar to any of them.
Just my opinion. |

I think that would depend on what part of France the French person you're talking to comes from. |

As said in previous answers, it depends where you are in France. In temper and looks Northern France is more closely related to our northern neighbours, Belges or Germans, south is related to our Mediterranean neighbours Italy and Spain. I don't think any of us are similar to the British or Irish despite Celtic roots in Brittany and we have nothing in common with Portuguese, Maltese, Albanian, Turk or North Africans as none of those people had ties to the different people who settled in France and created the country as it is now. |

I'm sorry if that's a poll I might not fill the cases but I would answer none of them. The only people I feel similar on here are the Italians although I live close to the spanish border. Spanish people do have a staggered pace of life.
But if I were to chose I would pick the first group : less people more chances to be similar, only european countries ; the only problem is the british presence but that's another story (old story). |

I'll say it's depend of the region. Personnaly (I'm French) I'm closer to swiss people (the french part only) than to other nations. But it's beacuse I'm living really close of Geneva.
Then, I guess more in the south, people will be closer to italian or spanish people, and in the north, to belgian or german.
And to make a short conclusion, it depends also of the travels you do during your life. I lived one year in Poland and fell now close to them... |

Clearly the b group. I think we (I am french) are more similar to spanish and italian people than the other people. The way of life (may be because of the climate), the food, the language are quite the same. |

No one of these groups, we are not like them. By the way, the people in group a) regard us as Latins and the people in group b) regard us as Celts... We are merely French.
And I don't understand why you put the Spaniards (and the Italians, etc) in the same group as the north african. This is not even the same civilisation and to my mind they are far less similar than the French could be to the Spaniards or the Germans. |
